IOM COLLABORATES WITH SLIEPA TO COMPLEMENT YOUTH
EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), has today, 27th May, 2020 engaged the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) to introduce the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Youth Entrepreneurship Project and to as well ask for a possible linkage with companies operating in Sierra Leone for the benefit of the project.
Mr. Koji ARISAWA, the Project Officer for TVET and Youth Entrepreneurship at IOM, said the project is geared towards creating job opportunity for youths by providing vocational skill trainings that lead to avoiding irregular migration and trafficking in Sierra Leone. He continued saying that, the project will develop vocational training curriculum that meets Sierra Leone’s human resources targeting welding, agriculture Farm Supervision, Farm Machinery and Equipment and Machine Operation.
According to Mr. ARISAWA, their final goal is to create job for the beneficiaries of the project for which they engaged SLIEPA to help build relationship with companies that will recruit these youths upon graduation.
Welcoming Mr. ARISAWA and his colleague, Mr. Ibrahim Maaz, Senior Project Assistant, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLIEPA, Mr. Sheku Lexmond Koroma, thanked IOM for such a laudable project zest to build the capacity of youths getting them ready for job opportunities. CEO said that the project is timely as it resonates with the Human Capital Development drive of the New Direction Government, led by His Excellency the President, RTD Brigadier Julius Maada Bio.
Mr. Koroma committed SLIEPA to the fulfillment of the request made by IOM and he assured them of a continued working relationship that will contribute to the success of the project.
