Sierra Leone to Start Producing Pet Flakes

On the 4th March 2020, Pro Environmental Recycling Solutions based in Kent, United Kingdom, met with the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) to discuss their plan of establishing a plastic recycling company for the manufacturing of PET Flakes in Sierra Leone. The meeting was held at the SLIEPA Office Head Quarter, Tower Hill, Freetown.
During his submission, the Director of Pro Environmental Recycling Solutions, Mr. Ryan Burley, stated that their company investes in state-of-the-art technology in sorting, granulating and washing processes for manufacturing high-quality polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flakes that is used to make high quality recycled products ranging from plastic bottles, trays, sheets and even fiber filling for soft furnishing.
He explained that their facility is equipped to recycle 1000,000 tons of waste of plastic bottles per day and turn them into useful product again. He said they aim to work with customers to stop plastics ending into landfill.
The Acting Marketing and Communications Director of SLIEPA, Mr. Francis Minah, who also acted as the CEO, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the SLIEPA CEO, Mr. Sheku Lexmond Koroma. He promised Pro Environmental Recycling Solutions that SLIEPA will provide the required facilitation services to meet with the leading water and drinks manufacturing companies in Freetown that use plastic sachets and bottles as containers. He said starting operations would not only provide job for the people and contribute to the Country’s economy, but also help to keep the city clean of plastic waste.
In his contribution, the Manager of Investment Promotion Department in SLIEPA, Mr. Hardy Jalloh, noted that though there is no exclusive data on the quantity of plastic waste collected in Sierra Leone, but they are assured of available market across the country.
