SLIEPA ENGAGES AGRIBUSINESSES IN KENEMA AND BO CITIES IN AN EFFORT TO FOSTER ECONOMIC GROWTH

The Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) on the 29th and 30th, of September 2023, made a site visit to selected Agri-business companies in Bo and Kenema Cities.
The visit was a scoping mission geared towards getting first-hand information from these investors in relation to their successes, challenges, and expectations from the government in order to ease their operations.
During this engagement with SLIEPA, each business had the opportunity to share its journey through obstacles and triumphs. Challenges were laid bare, ranging from the need for state-of-the-art machinery to concerns about electricity supply, road networks, transportation from farm gate to market, logistics, preservation facilities, packaging, sales turnovers, and much more.
The SLIEPA Team encouraged these investors to persevere, emphasizing that as the driving force behind investment and export promotion in Sierra Leone, they are firmly committed to communicating their valued concerns to the relevant Ministries, Department, and Agencies (MDAs) for actions to be taken giving that their contribution to Sierra Leone's economy is invaluable.
The companies visited included the Tongoma Agribusiness livestock, a business that engages in livestock and vegetables, Capitol Foods, a processor of locally sourced fruits into delightful beverage products, and the cocoa value chain. Also on the list was Approach to Rural Development Effort (My Chocolate Life), also involved in the cocoa value chain, Lizard Earth, a company in Kenema that is involved in cultivating organic cocoa to produce liquor, Sierra Agro-based Industries and Service Limited, a company operating across the cassava value chain, from full-scale production, and processing to marketing of cassava-based product of Sierra Bo Gari, and Siwada Organic Foods, an enterprise that deals with the cassava value chain and it’s also into livestock.
